I can feel the environment from your blog.
With the (created) fast pace life, we miss to appreciate the beauty of our surrounding.

Few years ago, one of my friend, after returning from Japan, told me that some Japanese companies play natural sounds (sound of waterfall, birds, rain, kids playing etc.) in their corridors. When the employees take a break from their tiring day, they feel extremely relaxed while passing through or waiting in those corridors.

I think this is related to your experience as well. In fact this matches with the fundamentals of entertainment which says that the moment our mind gets filled up while doing some work (good or bad) for a long time, such frequencies (depending upon individual’s taste) from other senses stipulates (by exciting or relaxing) our mind and they sound ever more beautiful.

Thank you for sharing such soothing blogs!

Beautifully, beautifully said.

Beautifully, beautifully said.

I like this post!.. Very nice thought..

Though I haven't read the book "America" but I want to add something to it...

When you are driving alone, this disconnection gives you time to be with your soul. It gives you a chance to speak with it, which normally we miss in our daily life. It gives you a time to stop (thinking, not driving) for a while and look back about what you have done in past (like the way we have passed the last road).

When you are with someone... it gives you an excellent opportunity to share those special thoughts which come from inside, un-affected by the surrounding activities. I remember that when I went to NY with my friends, since we got bored with songs, we started sharing some random stories of our life (about love, success, life, embarrassment, goals etc..). These highways helped us in knowing each other more deeply which we never did again.

So it all depends upon us!

Just a thought from my side. When you think about what this recent snow storm has done to the mental preparedness of a community, has it helped improve it? I don't think it has. In fact, most people are just complaining about how cold it is, how mad they are the weather has put a damper on their ability to come and go as they please.

They want to blame the county or city in which they live because the streets are not cleaned. The government should be doing more, more, more. When are we going to wake up as a society and declare, ENOUGH! We have enough, we don't need anymore, now what can I do to give back? Who can I help today?

I appreciate the humanitarian aid that is extended to those less fortunate in other countries, but when are we going to start taking care of our people? There are a lot of Americans hurting and struggling but our attention spans are so short. We only help out in time of MAJOR crisis. If we could only do a little bit everyday to make a difference.

What will it take to get people motivated to help themselves? I don't think it will solve anything if we simply hand it to them. History has proven this fact already. Having social events that have a purpose with significant outcome, will this solve it? I think it will help. Social gatherings make people feel good. Humans are wired to interact with each other, but we need to ensure these meetings are purpose driven and not a forum to just complain about the problems.

In closing, I must admit, I haven't done enough to make the changes happen, but hopefully I am on the correct path now and will be doing my best to not just bring up the issues, but propose solutions. As a manager, I always tried to instill that value in my employees, so they were always thinking about solutions and not just the problems.

Sorry Marilyn, I'm not trying to take over your blog, but I'm very passionate about this subject.

This is great! Every time I see a farm sold off and houses built, it brings on these emotions. The truly sad part about the way these communities are placed, its more about maximizing profits and not enough effort is spent thinking long term.

If the land developers and zoning approvers would think about the long term impacts and not about how much profit can be made and tax revenue will be generated, the parcels might look differently.
